Sewing/Stitching

Post by Tina Head Lady on Sat Jul 12, 2008 5:47 am

A lot of people are a bit held back when it comes to stitching on a page, but once you do it a couple of times you'll see how effective it can be. the main thing to remember is to always mark out your pattern, even if it is just a straight line, in pencil first so that it is exactly where you want it and measured correctly. Then mark the holes before sewing with a paper piercer and the rest is simple. When sewing straight borders and patterns, a stitch marker is a great investment. They are inexpensive and give a nice neat & close stitched effect. Once you get more confident, try doodling on the page in pencil and then marking holes over your pattern for a stitched doodling effect. This is one of my favourite forms of embellishing and really gives your project a unique aspect. Have a go and see what you come up with.

Try setting your sewing machine onto the longest stitch length you have, then without your machine threaded, 'sew' a random pattern or line on your page...this leaves you perfectly spaced holes to hand sew if you prefer the thicker embroidery cottons.
