After looking through the mags lately I have discovered loads of LOs popping up using old book pages and old kids book (think golden books) pages. I love the effect and wanted to give it a try myself.

I was walking past a second hand shop and spied some old books for 20c each! bargain, I hunted through for a book that was aged really well so I didn't have to work too had on distressing.

And then all you need to is treat it like patterned paper, here are a couple of examples of what I ...

For anyone who currently has Fiskars Shape Templates gathering dust I have great news. Yesterday I went into Clark Rubber and brought half a metre of neoprene rubber (1.5mmx150mm) for $5.50 - and that got me 3 mats. Then to use it with the cuttlebug the following "sandwich" works perfectly:

Plate A

Texture plate (face up)

Cardstock

Rubber

Plate C

thats it, no spray mist of water, no shims...no muss, no fuss...lol

I have had two photo's published in photography journals...thats something to be proud of I suppose. But I don't classify myself as a photographer, here are just a few things I have learnt and read along the way that have helped my photo taking techniques.

To try and get that special shot is hard, so if your looking at doing a photo shoot be pre-pared for about an half an hour to an hour of almost continous shots.

Angles play a big part when taking photo's.

For a lace type effect, stamp flourishes along the edge of a sheet of vellum...use either versamark or coloured ink....sprinkle over embossing powder - clear over coloured ink or coloured powder over versamark - then heat as per usual........the vellum will buckle and bend when heated..but will flatten on cooling....trim close to the flourishes on the outside edge to achieve the effect....try white powder on white vellum or matching powder colours on matching vellum tints....have fun

I just go to my local News agent and ask for transparency sheet or over-head projector sheets and then I decorate them. A few hints might help though as I learnt the hard way...lol.

Choose a wide ribbon, grosgrain types work well...either coat the ribbon in starch - available from the supermarket laundy section - or Dimensional Magic..(tip...cover a smaller cutting mat or board in cling wrap...the DM doesn't tend to stick the ribbon to your board)..allow to dry...usually 24 hrs....when dry, insert into embossing folder and run through your selected machine. the starch/DM holds the texture and adds a great border accent to your pages or cards..

A lot of people are a bit held back when it comes to stitching on a page, but once you do it a couple of times you'll see how effective it can be. the main thing to remember is to always mark out your pattern, even if it is just a straight line, in pencil first so that it is exactly where you want it and measured correctly. Then mark the holes before sewing with a paper piercer and the rest is simple. When sewing straight borders and patterns, a stitch marker is a great investment. They are inexpensive ...

Tearing cardstock or paper is a great and easy technique, it is great for heritage style pages and I have used for many other styles too.
Tear along the edge of you chosen CS or pp and then gently roll between your fingers and table. A great tip for this is to wet the torn edge first. It makes it easy to roll and dries quickly holding it's shape.

Blinging Flowers

Flowers are a beautiful addition to any page, but why not make your flowers your own? With some coordinating or contrasting kindy glitz, you can make them really shine out. The most effective way to apply the glitz is to use it like a paint, squeeze some out into a separate container and then just brush onto the petals lightly until you have the desired effect. Go slowly and you won't make any mistakes. Hope this helps someone give their project that special something.

Now stamping is a really straight forward technique. But remember that you can stamp almost anything flowers look great stamped as well as handmade journalling cards.

The stamp coming onto the edge of a photo really looks beautiful and elegant, while creates flow and harmony.

Stamp in different colours, so say you have the black stamped then change to say a gold ink and stamp on or just next to the black one to create a highlight or greater definition.

Anyway just a couple of ideas

Ribbon covered chipboard embellishments are just that. They are easy to do and can be made to co-ordinate with your lay-out.

You will need

Chipboard any shape or size.( I find that full pices are better than say flourishes)

Ribbon (any type colour or texture)

Double sided tape.

Basically just cover the chipboard in double sided tape and then position the ribbon in lines over it.

You could also get creative and try and add different placements with you ribbon.

Hope this ...
